TVLine has learned exclusively that Die Hard franchise alum William Atherton will fill the role of E-Rep official Viceroy Mercado aka Major Pottinger’s commanding officer. Described as ruthless, sarcastic and fond of peppering his sentences with “old Earth” references, Mercado is harboring a dark secret that would shock both his colleagues and the people of Defiance.
Also boarding the show’s sophomore run is Anna Hopkins as Jessica “Berlin” Rai, a soldier and documentarian who makes propaganda films that shine a positive light on E-Rep’s occupation of Defiance. Watch for this tough, fearless lass to form the center of a passionate love triangle.
Atherton’s more recent TV credits include guest gigs on Workaholics, Castle and The Glades, while Hopkins appeared in a February episode of Nikita.
When Defiance opens Season 2 in June 2014, E-Rep has assumed control of the titular town with far-reaching consequences — including a new mayor — while Nolan is traversing the badlands to find Irisa, Amanda assumes an unexpected role as she searches for Kenya and the Tarr family desperately tries to keep control of their criminal empire.
As reported by Deadline, the cabler has given a cast-contigent green light to a series adaptation of the 1995 Terry Gilliam film, which starred Bruce Willis as a convict from a post-apocalyptic future sent back in time to acquire intel on a virus that will wreak havoc on humanity.
Brad Pitt costarred as a mental patient Willis’ character meets who may have ties to the Army of the Twelve Monkeys, a terrorist group believed responsible for the viral attack.
Filming on the pilot, which was penned by Terra Nova‘s Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, is set to begin in November, with 12 Monkeys movie producer Charles Roven on board as an EP.
Christian Camargo, who on Dexter played Brian Moser aka Dex’s brother aka the Ice Truck Killer, is joining Haven Season 4 in the recurring role of Duke’s estranged half-sibling Wade, Syfy announced on Thursday.
Described as “charming, driven, and slightly devious,” Wade is a successful businessman seemingly at the top of his game by in reality haunted by a dark and lethal family secret.
In other Season 4 news, the Syfy series has cast Hellcats alum Emma Lahana as Jennifer Mason, a slightly off-kilter young lady who hears strange voices in her head — voices that could produce valuable clues about Audrey Parker’s whereabouts. As Jennifer digs into her own personal history, it is revealed she may have a bigger role to play in the town’s strange happenings.
The Hollywood Reporter first reported on the two castings.
Haven returns with new episodes on Friday, Sept. 13.
British actor James Murray, whose TV credits include Primeval, Kröd Mändoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire (as Ralph Longshaft) and CBS’ short-lived Chaos, is joining Syfy’s Defiance in the new series regular role of Niles Pottinger, Deadline reports.
Hailing from the UK (which was devastated during the Pale Wars), Niles is appointed Defiance’s provisional mayor by E-Rep — probably because Datak has either gone on the lam after killing the military conglom’s Colonel Marsh, or because he gets caught.
Niles is described as a man who has transcended his working class roots to appreciate the finer things in life — all while exhibiting a rock star’s charisma. And the next “finer thing” he obsessively sets his sights on is none other than ex-mayor Amanda (played by Julie Benz). Smart man.
Defiance is set to launch its 13-episode sophomore run in June 2014.
