The diva still has a pulse!
Six weeks after Lifetime pulled the plug on Drop Dead Diva, the network has renewed the dramedy for a fifth season.
According to Deadline, which first broke the news, Diva’s producer Sony TV came up with a more feasible “financial model” for the show, paving the way for Lifetime’s about-face.
Drop Dead Diva is officially, well, dead.
Lifetime on Tuesday decided not to renew the legal dramedy for a fifth season Deadline reports.
Diva — which stars Brooke Elliott as a vapid, dead model stuck in the body of a curvy, smart lawyer — wrapped its Season 4 run last September. The show’s producers Sony Pictures TV may attempt to shop the scrapped series elsewhere.
Cameron Mathison (ex-Ryan, AMC) and Ashley Jones (ex-Bridget, B&B) will appear as guest stars in Season 4 of the popular series DROP DEAD DIVA, which airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on Lifetime. The episode featuring the daytime faves will air in August.
Adam Harrington and Currie Graham will guest-star on Drop Dead Diva this season, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.
Harrington (The Secret Circle) will appear in the ninth episode as Paul Hewitt, a charming and relentless lawyer for a grieving stepmother who’s suing for custody of her dead stepson’s cremated ashes. Paul will call a witness whose testimony may derail the entire defense for Jane (Brooke Elliott) and Grayson (Jackson Hurst).
In the following episode, Graham (Raising the Bar, Boston Legal) will appear as Simon Grundy, a lawyer who works with Jane when Deb’s mother, Bobbi Dobkins (returning guest star Sharon Lawrence), is sued for a young girl’s personal injury in Bobbi’s dance studio. Unfortunately, Simon sorely lacks people skills and comes into conflict with Jane on how to handle the case. This episode will also feature Dance Moms’ Abby Lee Miller.
Harrington and Graham join a slew of previously announced guest stars, including Kim Kardashian, Megyn Price, Patty Duke, Emily Rutherford, John Ratzenberger, Faith Prince and Madchen Amick.
The fourth season of Drop Dead Diva premieres Sunday, June 3 at 9/8c on Lifetime. Missed any episodes of Diva? Catch up on with a mini-marathon beginning Saturday, June 2 at 12/11c.
