FX Orders Denis Leary Produced Cop Comedy Pilot

FX is hopping back into bed with Rescue Me co-creator and star Denis Leary soon, as the cable network has ordered a new cop comedy pilot from Leary’s production company Apostle Pictures.

The show is called Bronx Warrants, and is being created by former Arrested Development producer Dean Lorey. Based on the exploits of real life officers David Joglar and Richard Wetzel (who will also act as co-producers on the series), the plot revolves around a group of unorthodox detectives assigned to pick up suspects who have outstanding arrest warrants. The detectives receive big fat bonuses for every new criminal they bring in, and thus find themselves much more concerned with inflating their bank account than dishing out justice. Lorey, Leary and Jim Serpico (one of Leary’s partners at the company) will serve as producers on the show, while Leary’s other partner Tom Sellitt will fill the role of co-executive producer.

FX’s Head of Series Development, Eric Schrier had this to say about the new pilot – “Dean Lorey has taken this unique police squad and created a hilarious and surprising world of characters and situations.” Short, sweet, and to the point. If it’s anything like Rescue Me, I’m sure it will be a laugh riot. While usually billed as a drama, that show could be as funny as any comedy out there.
