Unforgettable viewers will be invited to do a “double take” when the CBS procedural returns this summer.
Erin Cummings, who on Spartacus: War of the Damned played the title character’s ill-fated wife Sura, has been cast as Eve Steele, an elite thief-for-hire that happens to bear a resemblance to NYPD detective Carrie Wells, played by Poppy Montgomery.
When Eve is pulled in for questioning on the eve of a major heist, watch for Carrie’s team to consider a “switcheroo,” by having Detective Super-Memory pose as the elusive, reclusive burglar.
After Cummings announced the gig via Twitter, we went ahead and did the math; CBS has not yet double-secret confirmed the casting:
Unforgettable launches Season 2 on July 28; Cummings’ yet-to-be scheduled episode is titled “Incognito.”
The actress’ other TV credits include CBS’ short-lived Made in Jersey, Pan Am, Detroit 1-8-7 and Mad Men (where she played Candace, a pro that Don has frequented). She next can be seen visiting Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer, on July 2.
It’s a good thing Unforgettable‘s Carrie Wells has that super-memory, because she may need it to remember some of the colleagues who helped her crack cases during Season 1.
Sources confirm for TVLine that the CBS procedural, which in late June was plucked from the cancellation ashes and slotted for a Summer 2013 encore, has dropped three of its series regulars.
So while Poppy Montgomery, who stars as The Rememberer (aka the show’s original title), Dylan Walsh and mid-season add Jane Curtin have all been signed for Season 2, Michael Gaston (The Mentalist), Kevin Rankin (Justified) and Daya Vaidya — who played Detectives Mike Costello, Roe Saunders and Nina Inara — are no longer a part of the full-time cast.
Rejiggering a show’s ensemble for its sophomore run is not uncommon, especially as it regards a series that might need to reinvent itself in the name of proving worthy of a last-minute reprieve.

CBS is in talks to pluck the Poppy Montgomery-fronted Unforgettable from the cancellation ashes, for a 13-episode Season 2, our sister site Deadline reports.
Said sophomore run would be targeted for a Summer 2013 bow. CBS did not comment on the report.
Unforgettable, which aired Tuesdays at 10, drew 11 million total viewers and a 2.0 demo rating with its Season 1 finale, yet it wasn’t among the 19 shows renewed by CBS for the 2012-13 TV season.
