Freshman CBS drama Hostages has added a potentially crucial piece to the highly serialized show’s puzzle.
Francie Swift (Law & Order: SVU, Gossip Girl) has landed the possibly recurring role of Nina, the wife of Dylan McDermott’s FBI agent-turned-terrorist Duncan Carlisle, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively. Although details about her character are scarce, sources say she will be central to the long-arc plot of the first season.
Hostages tells the story of Ellen Sanders (Toni Collette), a successful surgeon who’s set to operate on the president of the United States. On the night before the surgery, however, Ellen and her family are taken hostage by Duncan and his team, who threaten to kill Ellen’s family if she doesn’t kill the president.
Although Duncan’s wife appears in the hospital in a non-speaking role in the series’ pilot, Nina will play into the story as the season progresses. Perhaps her character’s health issues will illuminate exactly why Duncan would go against his badge and attempt to assassinate the POTUS?
Besides her recurring roles on SVU and Gossip Girl, Swift has also appeared on The Good Wife, Elementary and Person of Interest. She also recently had a recurring role on the first season of Netflix’s House of Cards.
Hostages premieres Monday, Sept. 23 at 10/9c on CBS. Swift is scheduled to first appear in the fourth episode.
TVLine has learned exclusively that Hilarie Burton — who is coming off a well-received, pot-stirring run on Grey’s Anatomy — has been grabbed by CBS’ Hostages.
The new thriller drama follows Dr. Ellen Sanders (played by Toni Collette), a top-shelf surgeon who with her family is abducted by terrorists the night before she is to operate on the President of the United States. Burton will recur as Samantha, an assistant to Tate Donovan’s Brian Sanders — aka Ellen’s secret-keeping, commercial real estate-dealing husband.
An alum of One Tree Hill, Burton’s other recent TV credits include White Collar and Castle.
Hostages premieres Sept. 23, airing Mondays at 10/9c.
Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio is joining CBS’ new D.C.-set thriller Hostages as the FLOTUS, a role portrayed in the pilot by Scandal‘s Kate Burton, TVLine has learned.
Per sources, the plan is to re-shoot the two scenes in the premiere featuring Burton. Mastrantonio will also appear in the third episode (and likely beyond).
This Jerry Bruckheimer-produced thriller stars Toni Collette as Dr. Ellen Sanders, a top-shelf surgeon who in 24 hours is due to cut open the President of the United States (Gossip Girl‘s James Naughton) — but first, she and her family are taken hostage by rogue FBI agent Duncan Carlisle (Dylan McDermott) and his savvy, sleek team of cohorts. The good doc’s horrible dilemma: Facilitate POTUS’ death during surgery, or kiss her loved ones goodbye.
Hostages premieres Monday, Sept. 23 at10/9c.
