News Briefs: Walton Goggins Is Developing a Series for Fox

… Walton Goggins, who is currently starring as Boyd Crowder on FX’s Justified, is developing a drama project about the world of Mexican drug cartels for Fox. Gringo, which Goggins is writing with Adam Fierro (The Shield), will follow an American cop and his Mexican wife as they move south of the border and become involved in the cartel wars. Goggins is not currently attached to appear in Gringo, so it doesn’t look like he’ll be leaving Harlan—alive or dead—any time soon. [Variety]

… Breckin Meyer, who created TBS’s Men at Work and who plays Franklin on TNT’s Franklin & Bash, has sold the single-camera comedy Thursdays to NBC. The project revolves around a group of guys—naturally—who have a weekly Thursday night guys dinner. I don’t want to play the girl card here, but seriously, bro? Would it kill you to create a series that isn’t just about dudes hanging out being dudes?  [Deadline Hollywood]

… Mark your calendars! FX announced today that American Horror Story: Coven will premiere October 9. Jessica Lange is playing the witchy mother of Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett is playing Marie Laveau, a character loosely based on an influential woman from the 1800s, and Kathy Bates is channeling the infamous 1830s New Orleans socialite/serial killer Madame LaLaurie. [TV Line]

… One might have expected Patrick Dempsey to finally announce his own decision regarding his future at Seattle Grace once co-star Sandra Oh announced she was leaving Grey’s Anatomy. But he remains cagey about whether or not he’ll return after his contract is up after Season 10.  [TV Line]

… AMC has pulled the patented CW move of hiring from within. David Morrissey, who plays The Governor on AMC’s The Walking Dead, has been cast as the lead in the network’s new drama pilot Line of Sight, about a National Transportation Safety Board investigator who survives a horrific plane crash. AMC is claiming Morrissey will return for Season 4 of The Walking Dead, because both series film in Atlanta, but there’s no reason to believe the Governor won’t die simply because AMC made one simple statement. Come on, guys, this is The Walking Dead we’re talking about. [Deadline Hollywood]

… More details have emerged regarding Demi Lovato’s stint on Glee. It looks like the X Factor judge will be romancing Naya Rivera’s Santana in Season 5. Lovato will first appear in the Beatles tribute episode, and the duo are rumored to be performing “Here Comes the Sun.” [People]

… Zeljko Ivanek (Damages) is joining the cast of Revolution in Season 2. He’ll play the meticulous scientist Dr. Calvin Horn, per series creator Eric Kripke.  [TV Guide]

… Justin Bruening (Grey’s AnatomyAll My Children) has been cast in ABC Family’s new series Ravenswood as Benjamin Price, a teacher not completely unlike Pretty Little Liars Ezra Fitz, as it’s said Benjamin is able to connect with his students as both a teacher and a friend. Let’s hope Mr. Price steers clear of the whole teacher/student romantic relationship thing, though. We don’t want ABC Family to become that network. Bruening will first appear in the October 22 series premiere. [THR]

… Sarah Jane Morris (NCIS), who can be seen in A&E’s drama pilot Occult, will be guest-starring as the Victim of the Week on Criminal Minds this fall. She’ll appear in the sixth episode of Season 9. [TV Line]
