News Briefs: Two Major Characters Are Leaving Parks and Recreation

Parks and Recreation will be saying goodbye to Rashida Jones (Ann) and Rob Lowe (Chris) midway through the upcoming sixth season. No reasons have been announced for their departure, but let’s just blame Sean Saves the World. Lowe won’t stray too far, though; NBC is apparently working on a development deal with him. … ABC has renewed Celebrity Wife Swap for a 13-episode third season. Look for it to air sometime next year. [Deadline Hollywood]

… Style is bringing back the original Cribs, the ’80s and ’90s jealousy maker Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. Remember, the one where Robin Leach narrated inside looks at how the wealthy live while the rest of us stayed at home and ate Salisbury Steak TV Dinners? The new version will be hosted by Nick Cannon. [THR]

… FX and Paul Giamatti are working on a minseries about abolitionist John Brown. It’s early in development, but the idea would be a period piece following a farmer’s transformation from veggie peddler to anti-slave activist and his famous assault on Harper’s Ferry.  [Deadline Hollywood]

… Showtime’s online service Showtime Anytime, where subscribers can watch on-demand series and movies that are on the premium cable network, now has another trick in its hat other than the ability to magically make Homeland appear on iPads. Starting today, both the East Coast and West Coast feeds of Showtime can be streamed to approved devices, meaning you can spoil Gigolos for all your friends. [Showtime via press release]

… Amazon is producing five more kids’ series pilots for its original programming initiative. Raff Show, and Wishenpoof!  [Amazon via press release]

… Syfy is cashing in on the Sharknado craze and has licensed Sharknado-branded merchandise. Expect Sharknado shirts, mugs, bags, calendars, swimsuits, neck ties, bumper stickers, aprons, and more to hit the shelves of novelty stores everywhere very soon. [Syfy via press release]

… Danny Trejo (MACHETE!) the character actor will join FX’s upcoming multi-camera comedy Saint George, which stars George Lopez as a divorced Mexican dad who gets rich in business and balances his new life with his roots. Trejo will play George’s uncle. The series is being set up under the same model as Anger Management, meaning that if the initial 10 episodes do well in the ratings, FX will order 90 more. [THR]

Ghost Whisperer‘s David Conrad has landed a recurring role on ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. There are no details on the part. [TV Line]

… Barack Obama, yes THAT Obama, will visit The Tonight Show with Jay Leno next week on Tuesday to promote his new movie Grown Ups 2. [NBC via press release]

Arrested Development‘s Jeffrey Tambor never met a guest role he didn’t like, and you can see his next one on Raising Hope. He’ll play a man who pops up in the lives of the Chance family during the upcoming season. [THR]

Flight star Kelly Reilly will star in ABC’s forthcoming limited series The Black Box. She’ll play a brilliant neuroscientist who is keeping her mental illness a secret from her friends and coworkers. The 13-episode run starts next year. [ABC via press release]

… Isabella Rossellini will drop by NBC’s The Blacklist. She’ll play an activist who becomes the target of an assassin who makes his killings look like everyday accidents.  [The Wrap]

… Brother of Kate and Rules of Engagement vet Oliver Hudson will join Nashville next season.  [TV Line]
