FX to Make a Fargo TV Series with the Coen Brothers

FX is teaming up with Joel and Ethan Coen to bring Fargo to the network as an hour long dark comedy. The original 1996 film starred Frances McDormand and William H. Macy, and it’s unclear what exactly would be the cast and premise of this weekly version.

The Coens would serve as executive producers, but would likely not be involved in the day to day of running the show, outside of maybe perhaps the pilot, as tends to happen with these things.

Interestingly, MGM tried to adapt the film for TV in 2003 in a show starring Edie Falco directed by Kathy Bates, but the Coens weren’t involved and it fell apart.

Could they actually get Frances McDormand back for this? If the Coens are involved, I don’t see why it couldn’t be a possibility. Yes, she’s been acting in many films since 1996, but leading your own TV show isn’t that bad of a gig either.
