Executives at E4 have renewed their dramedy series Misfits for a fifth season, which is set to air in late 2013. The size of the order for season five is 8 episodes.
Despite some declines in the ratings, a fifth season renewal for Misfits was considered likely. The production company had already begun staffing the writers room in anticipation of a pick up. As part of that staffing effort, they recruited Mike O’Leary – the writer behind the Misfits : Strung Out web-series as well as the Misfits companion book – to serve on the show’s writing staff for season 5.
Misfits has had a somewhat troubled fourth series this year, with all the original cast now leaving. But recent episodes seem to have picked up rather nicely.
There had been some internal concerns about the show, but that they believed the “second block” of recording, starting with the rabbit episode, was a lot stronger.
And also that Misfits has been renewed for a fifth series.
Of course who exactly will be in it, once Hollywood has strip mined the new cast for Game Of Thrones, The Hobbit or Pip Pip Mister Phillips! (London Style) as they did the last, I have no idea…
Channel 4 has released new details about the fourth series of Misfits.
Joseph Gilgun (Rudy), Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Curtis) and Matthew McNulty (Seth) will be joined by new cast members Karla Crome (Jess) and Nathan McMullen (Finn) in the episodes.
Matt Stokoe (Black Mirror) has also joined the cast as Alex, it has been confirmed. The new regular was previously described as “good-looking” but “standoffish”.
Jess and Finn’s powers on the E4 drama have also been revealed – the former will have X-ray vision, while the latter will be “telekinetic, but not in an A-list kind of way”.
The new Misfits team will face threats including “a six-foot killer rabbit” and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in eight 60-minute episodes.
Series four of Misfits – written by creator Howard Overman and Jon Brown (Fresh Meat) – will air on Channel 4 in late 2012.
The new Misfits cast for the fourth series has been revealed.
Karla Crome and Nathan McMullen have been confirmed as new series regulars on the E4 drama, joining returning cast members Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Curtis) and Joseph Gilgun (Rudy).
Curtis and Rudy welcome Jess and Finn to the gang.
Hit and Miss actress Crome will play Jess, while Shameless star McMullen has been cast as Finn. Matthew McNulty will also reappear in the fourth series as power-dealer Seth.
Joseph Gilgun previously told Digital Spy that he is enjoying working with his new castmates.
“They really are lovely, lovely people,” said Gilgun. “You can see they’re a bit wide-eyed – I remember feeling like they feel. I know how it feels to be the newbie.”
Misfits will return to E4 in late 2012.
