Magic City Season 2 Ben Diamond Tease
Magic City – Season 2 – Casting News – Rick Ross Joins Cast
“Magic City” has added another famous face to its all-star lineup. Season two of the critically acclaimed series will feature legendary rapper Rick Ross as “Butterball,” the proprietor of an illegal Cuban/American gambling house in Miami known as a “bolita,” (the numbers racket). There are numerous bolitas in the Miami area and not surprisingly, Ben “the Butcher” Diamond (Golden Globe® nominee for Best Supporting Actor, Danny Huston) is getting a cut from the illicit operations.
Ross burst onto the rap scene in 2006 when his debut album “Port of Miami” reached the top of the Billboard Music charts. Ross then founded the record label, Maybach Music Group, on which he released his studio albums “Deeper Than Rap” (2009) “Teflon Don” (2010) and “God Forgives, I Don’t” (2012). A huge fan of the series, Ross visited the “Magic City” set while in Miami last year and met the show’s creator Mitch Glazer who found a role for him.
The new season of “Magic City” will also see the return of creator and executive producer Mitch Glazer (The Recruit, Scrooged) as well as performers Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen, “Grey’s Anatomy”) whose recent film The Possession held the number one spot at the box office three weeks in a row, Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace, Max Payne), Danny Huston (The Kingdom, Children of Men, X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Kelly Lynch (Drugstore Cowboy, Charlie’s Angels), Steven Strait (City Island), Christian Cooke (Cemetery Junction), Jessica Marais (“Packed to the Rafters”), Yul Vazquez (The A-Team, American Gangster), Dominik Garcia-Lorido (City Island) and Elena Satine (Just Go With It).
Along with Mitch Glazer, Geyer Kosinski (Changeling, The Astronaut Farmer) and Fred Berner (“Law & Order,” “Law & Order: Criminal Intent”) serve as executive producers.
Season two of “Magic City” will air exclusively on STARZ in summer 2013.

Magic City: James Caan, Esai Morales, Jamie Harris Join Season 2
According to Deadline, the second season of Magic City will be adding two pivotal figures to its already luxurious world. James Caan and Esai Moraleshave signed on to enter the world of Miami gangsters and hotel dons, with each role set to be recurring. Caan will be playing Sy Berman, the head of the Chicago mob and one of the few men that can control Ben Diamond. The two have had a long-standing father-son dynamic, but Berman has a connection to Lily that might end their friendship once and for all.
Morales, meanwhile, will be playing a former Cuban rebel named Carlos Ruiz that once fought alongside Castro, though he is now trying to liberate his country. While his connection to the rest of the cast has yet to be unveiled, I wouldn’t be surprised for him to have some type of familiarity with Vera; Vera made it pretty big in Cuba as a dancer, meeting a lot of people and getting her name out there to the point that a rich hotel baron from Miami wanted to make her his bride. Considering Vera’s desire to embrace her past and continue her dancing, it’d make sense to have someone from her past pop up and remind her of who she once was.
Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter indicates that Jamie Harris has joined the cast as well, portraying Nicky Grillo, a drug-addicted mobster with a quick temper (and a likely itchy trigger finger). Has Ben Diamond added a little muscle to his operation and if so, how long will it be before Grillo either hurts the wrong man or comes after the boss?
Caan, most known for his Oscar-nominated role in The Godfather as Sonny Corleone, last appeared on television in a 2010 episode of Hawaii Five-0, while his most recent series regular role came on NBC’s Las Vegas as Ed Deline. Morales, himself best known for portraying Bob Morales in 1987′s La Bamba, recently completed an arc on Fairly Legal, with other appearances on the likes of Caprica and Jericho. This will be the first series regular role for Harris, who has guested on the likes of The Mentalist, American Horror Story, and CSI: Miami.
The second season of Magic City will premiere in 2013.
Will you be watching Magic City next season? What connection do you think that Morales’ character has to the rest of the cast? How do Sy and Lily know each other?
