Being Mary Jane – starring Gabrielle Union (a BET movie)

July 3, 2013 Leave a comment

Being Mary Jane is easy when you look like Gabrielle Union!

The gorgeous 40-year-old actress returns to TV Tuesday, July 2, when her new series Being Mary Jane premieres on BET in the form of a two-hour movie (you know, like Battlestar Galactica).

The show is a big deal for the network as it’s their first original drama series and hails from the producers of BET’s hit series The Game. But it seems like courting Union to join their lineup is an even bigger deal for BET as they boast “We Got Gabrielle” in a trailer for Being Mary Jane. Hey, can you blame ‘em?!

Union, who is dating NBA star Dwayne Wade, plays the titular character, Mary Jane Paul, a successful TV anchor and a self-sufficient woman who remains devoted to her family, even if they don’t share her ambition or motivation. BET is hoping women everywhere relate to Mary Jane as she juggles work, relationships and family.

The Game Welcomes Lauren London To the Cast.

June 25, 2012 Leave a comment

Well, at least one piece has fallen into place concerning the mystery of the upcoming sixth season of The Game. And Lord, what a piece it is…

TVLine announced this past Wednesday that The Game has cast Lauren London (This Christmas, ATL) in the series regular role of Kiera, a former child star (think Keisha Knight Pulliam from The Cosby Show) who is transitioning into more adult roles after being on a sitcom at the age of five. There is no word still on who will be her male counterpart Bryce “The Blueprint” Westbrook, and frankly I can’t think of anyone who could fill that role myself at this point. Maybe Diana Ross’s son Evan Ross of recent 90210 fame could get it, but that’s stretching it.

As for Lauren London being cast, I’m going to stay neutral on what she could bring to the role. She is a recognizable actress, though, to not only the BET audience, but an audience in general. London’s film roles, which range from being T.I.’s love interest in ATL to Hayden Panetierre’s bestie in I Love You, Beth Cooper, have made her a household name despite what some detractors might say. Plus, a household name is something BET could use to make The Game relevant next year. As for the casting of Bryce, besides Evan Ross, what do you guys think about Brandon T. Jackson or Robert Ri’chard? Or… does Bryce have to be black at all? Hmm…

Go in on the comments below about your thoughts on Lauren London joining The Game and who should be her co-star.

The Game Recruits 90210 Grad

June 21, 2012 Leave a comment

The Game has found a new player.

Lauren London (90210) is joining the BET comedy’s sixth season as a series regular, TVLine has learned.

The actress — whose credits also include Single Ladies and Madea’s Big Happy Family – will play Kiera, a former child star who is currently appearing in a Cosby Show-esque sitcom. Producers are also on the lookout for an actor to play an all-star running back. Both roles are intended to fill the void left by departing cast members Tia Mowry and Pooch Hall (aka Melanie and Derwin).

Back for the new season are Wendy Raquel Robinson, Coby Bell, Hosea Chanchez, Brandy Norwood and Barry A. Floyd.
