Chicago Fire Spinoff Officially Happening at NBC

Quick, someone clone Taylor Kinney and Jesse Spencer!
NBC is officially going forward with a spinoff of their firemen drama Chicago Fire, which will be titled Chicago P.D. Dick Wolf‘s companion series is described as “a gripping, character-driven new police drama about those who put it all on the line to serve and protect.”
News of the spinoff may come as a bit of surprise as the freshman drama averages 7.8 million viewers and a 2.3 adults 18-49 rating (when you include seven days of DVR); solid numbers but not huge.
Here’s what viewers can expect from the new series, according to NBC:
“District 21 of the Chicago Police Department is made up of two distinctly different groups. There are the uniformed cops who patrol the beat and go head to head with the city’s street crimes. And there’s the Intelligence Unit, the team that combats the city’s major offenses–organized crime, drug trafficking, high profile murders and beyond. Leading the Intelligence team is Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), a man not against skirting the law in the pursuit of justice. Demanding and tough, only those who can take the heat survive under Voight’s command. Take Detective Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda)–despite his troubled history with his boss, Dawson has ambitions of running the unit… so if that means facing off against Voight every day, he’ll persevere. From the street cops with dreams of moving up to the elite crew who are already in, “life on the job” is a daily challenge. The enormous responsibilities that come with the territory take an emotional toll, as we’ll f nd when we follow the personal lives of our characters outside the walls of District 21.”
NBC recently announced the pickup of Ironside and a comedy from Bill Lawrence.

NBC Renews Revolution, Grimm, Parenthood, SVU, and Chicago Fire

Stupid wordplay time! The Revolution will be televised again, things are looking Grimm for NBC, congrats on your Parenthood NBC, and uhhh, something about Law & Order: SVU and Chicago Fire. NBC has renewed all five of those shows for new seasons. All of them will get 22-episode runs for 2013-2014, which is particularly good news for the perennial bubble show Parenthood, which hasn’t had a full season since its sophomore year in 2010-2011.
Though many of these shows were considered bubble riders, none of the renewals are too surprising. NBC’s bar was always going to be low given its current wasteland of successful programming, and the network needs SOME returning dramas for its 2013-2014 schedule. The numbers these shows are putting up wouldn’t've given them a chance five years ago, but hey, this is the new era of network television! Glaringly absent is Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal, which has received enough critics’ praise and steady ratings in its early going to warrant at least a long look for a second season. Deception and Smash will almost certainly be canceled.
NBC says this was the drama round, so there’s no word yet on Parks & Recreation, Community, Whitney, Guys with Kids, or anything else I may have forgotten. Look for those announcements to trickle out in the coming weeks.

Chicago Fire Exclusive: Scott Eastwood (aka Clint’s Son) Joins Police-Focused Spin-Off
NBC is making Scott Eastwood‘s day, tapping Clint’s actor-son as one of the stars of its proposed Chicago Fire spin-off, TVLine has learned exclusively.
Viewers will get their first look at the offshoot — which will revolve around the Windy City’s police department — in Chicago Fire‘s May 15 Season 1 finale.
Eastwood will play Officer Jim Barnes.
Coincidentally, the cast also includes Eastwood’s Texas Chainsaw 3D costar, Tania Raymonde.
Executive producer Dick Wolf, who’s had past successes with franchise extensions (Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU, Law & Order: Criminal Intent) for the Peacock Net, will reportedly helm the spinoff with Chicago Fire creators/executive producers Derek Haas and Michael Brandt and executive producer Matt Olmstead.
It remains unclear which, if any, Chicago Fire cast members might jump ship to the police-focused series.

Chicago Fire Spreading? NBC Considering Police-Centric Spinoff Series
Some infernos are just too hot to extinguish. And that seems to be the case with NBC’s Chicago Fire.
The network is reportedly considering the idea of turning the freshman drama’s Season 1 finale into a pilot episode for a spinoff series centered around the Windy City’s police department, according Deadline.com.
Executive producer Dick Wolf, who’s had past successes with franchise extensions (Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU, Law & Order: Criminal Intent) for the Peacock net, will reportedly helm the spinoff along with Chicago Fire creators/executive producers Derek Haas and Michael Brandt and executive producer Matt Olmstead. Deadline reports that it’s unclear which, if any, Chicago Fire cast members would jump ship to the police-focused series.
Chicago Fire recently got its initial 22-episode order extended to 24, and despite its most recent episode cooling down 4 and 15 percent in the overnights to 6.33 million total viewers and a 1.7 demo rating, it’s been a bright spot for struggling Peacock NBC.
