The Season 2 dating roster for The Mindy Project‘s titular doc gets longer all the time — and now you can add Justified‘s Timothy Olyphant to the list.
Olyphant will play a professional skateboarder in his 40s who meets Mindy Kaling’s character when he nearly runs her over in New York’s Union Square, the Los Angeles Times reports. His episode will run early in the season.
Though Kaling’s rom-com-obsessed OB-GYN finished Season 1 preparing to travel to Haiti with boyfriend Pastor Casey, we now know that [Spoiler alert!] their relationship won’t last long into the season.
Olyphant currently plays Raylan Givens in FX’s Justified.
Other familiar faces set to take part in the Project this season include Glenn Howerton (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Adam Pally (Happy Endings), James Franco (General Hospital) and the former Mr. Kim Kardashian, Kris Humphries. Returning guest-stars Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live), Anders Holm (Workaholics) and Chloe Sevigny (Big Love) also are scheduled to appear.
The comedy returns to Fox on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 9:30/8:30c.
Freaks and Geeks alum James Franco is joining the Fox comedy for a two-episode arc as the doc who fills in for Mindy while she and Pastor Casey volunteer in Haiti.
Franco’s character, Dr. Paul Leotard, is a charismatic and popular physician — and former model — who helps pick up the slack at Shulman & Associates. (His decision to leave the world of couture for a medical career came when he accidentally walked off a Fashion Week runway and was saved by a pregnant woman, thus cementing his desire to help expectant mothers for the rest of his life.)
The series announced the casting via its Facebook page.
The Oscar nominee’s career includes stints on TV (General Hospital, 30 Rock and Hollywood Heights) and in film (127 Hours, the Spider-Man franchise), in addition to academic, directorial and performance-art pursuits. He’ll soon be seen as Hugh Hefner in the upcoming biopic Lovelace.
Dr. Paul will be on call for the first two episodes of Mindy‘s new season, which premieres at 9:30/8:30c on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
The Mindy Project isn’t done generating headlines today.
On the heels of its second-season renewal, Fox’s rapidly-improving rookie comedy has tapped Chloe Sevigny to join the cast for multiple episodes as the ex-wife of Chris Messina’s Danny, TVLine has learned.
The Big Love vet’s character, Christina, is described as a well-traveled war photographer who’s been with some intimidating men in exotic locales, a fact which makes Danny insecure. She’s looking forward to a romantic dinner with Danny and is disappointed when something suddenly comes up.
Sevigny, who is coming off of guest stints on Portlandia and American Horror Story: Asylum, is on board for at least three episodes (the first of which will air in April).
